Gender “Performance”

Medium - Oil paint, acrylic paint, and oil pastel

Trans people are often pressured to conform to rigid, patriarchal standards of gender performance. Trans men are expected to adopt traditionally masculine attire—like button-down shirts and khakis—while trans women are steered toward hyperfeminine expressions, such as sundresses and delicate aesthetics. These expectations bound identity to performance and erase the spectrum of trans experience.
